HELHa Sport shines in competitions

Fencing, futsal, hurdles: several students proudly represented HELHa in sports competitions and brought home medals. Beyond the results, it is a committed and united student community that continues to grow.

On February 14 in Ghent, Maxime Debacker won gold in the 60m hurdles (senior category), while Chloé Gaudry claimed victory in the 1500m (junior category). The first women’s 4×200m relay team also marked an important milestone in the development of women’s sport at HELHa.

On March 1, Quentin Gamez secured a gold medal at the national fencing championships.

In futsal, two HELHa teams qualified for the final stage of the Hainaut Academic Hub tournament, with the TEAM finishing second out of 16 teams representing five institutions.

Meanwhile, league matches continue for the eleven teams competing this season. More updates will be shared during the Sports Awards Evening.

Recent highlights from HELHa Sport

Beyond national competitions, several events have brought HELHa Sport to life across all campuses:

  • Over 530 students took part in the Carolorida race on December 6 in Charleroi—a strong, visible, and collective mobilisation.

Among them:

  • Nina Steen won the women’s overall ranking (5 km)
  • Mikael Scohier dominated his 40+ category
  • Siméon Rabaute stood out in the 10 km race

Alongside them, Physiotherapy students were actively involved in supporting runners, illustrating a practical collaboration between academic programmes and event organisers, in service of both sport and student experience.

  • Orienteering races organised in Mons and Tournai brought together student duos in a challenge combining strategy and physical performance.
  • spinning evening in La Louvière gathered participants from Mons, Charleroi, and La Louvière in a dynamic and engaging atmosphere.
