Doing an internship abroad… Why not you?

Julie, Maihran, Charles, Noémie, Lucie, Simon, Thibault, Alessandro… They are Bachelor’s or Master’s students training for a variety of professions: electronics engineers, nurses, physiotherapists, and many more. These HELHa students all have one thing in common: they have completed their internship abroad!

How does it work?

Students must research their internship location and submit their international project proposal to their programme’s internship coordinator.

For an internship abroad in the first term, the project must be submitted by April 15; for the second term, by November 15. Please note that dates may vary for certain programmes.

Once the project is accepted, selected students can apply for financial support from the International Office (such as an ERASMUS+ grant). The amount of this grant depends on the cost of living in the destination country and the student’s socio-economic situation (for example, whether they are a grant-holder from the French Community of Belgium).

Internships can take place in a country of the student’s choice: within Europe, beyond Europe’s borders, or even in Flanders or the German-speaking Community of Belgium.

Why do an internship abroad?

Doing an internship abroad is the opportunity to combine a valuable professional experience within your training programme with the discovery of a new culture and way of life. Depending on the country chosen, it’s also a perfect chance to improve your foreign language skills.

It’s a true life experience, one that allows you to grow, open yourself up to the world, and discover more about who you are.

An internship abroad is validated through the recognition of ECTS credits earned on site. Erasmus internship details are also mentioned on the student’s Diploma Supplement by HELHa.

“Much more than just an internship: a unique adventure that transforms both my professional and personal journey. It teaches me to adapt to a new environment, broaden my skills, challenge myself, and grow. And the beauty is, sometimes you only need to travel just across a border to live such enriching moments.”Emilie

“Opening your mind, discovering a new world, it’s simply about growing.”Sofiane

“Discovering and living in a world different from your own, opening yourself to new professional and cultural experiences.”Grace
