Bridging Cultures: Erasmus Students Welcomed in Mons

On Friday September 12, the higher education institutions of the Pôle hainuyer came together to welcome incoming Erasmus students for the new academic year. The event was hosted at UMons and brought together participants from around the world.

The day began with a warm welcome from Mr. Denis Dufrane, Co-President of the Pôle hainuyer and President of the Haute École en Hainaut. His speech set the tone for a day dedicated to discovery, exchange, and intercultural understanding.

Students then took part in two interactive workshops: one on eco-responsibility, and another exploring the concept of “belgitude”, offering both practical insights and a taste of Belgian identity. The morning concluded with a session on interculturality, during which Belgian students shared their personal experiences of studying abroad.

After enjoying a sustainable lunch, participants were guided through a city discovery game, giving them the chance to explore their new home in an engaging and playful way. The day ended on a festive note with a closing drink at ARTS², leaving everyone with new connections and a sense of belonging.

This Welcome Day was not only an opportunity to meet fellow students and staff, but also a celebration of the international spirit that enriches our higher education community and the province of Hainaut.
